Enjoy Parenthood campaign earns “Outstanding Integrated Ad Campaign” award

A Yakima Valley Farm Workers Clinic (YVFWC) marketing campaign, “Enjoy Parenthood,” has been named an “Outstanding Integrated Ad Campaign.”

The award, presented by the Web Marketing Association’s 2016 Internet Advertising Competition (IAC), recognizes excellence in online advertising.

The marketing campaign, which celebrates the fun and challenges brought on by parenthood, was created by the YVFWC Marketing and Communications department, along with The Field Group and Deck Ape Productions. http://www.thefieldgroup.net/yvfwciacsubmission

While this award focused on the online elements of the campaign, the entire campaign also includes billboards, newspaper and radio advertising, convenience store posters and direct mail.

The Web Marketing Association (WMA) was founded in Boston in 1997 to help set a high standard for internet marketing and corporate web development. The organization is made up of internet marketing, advertising, PR and design professionals who share an interest in improving the quality of advertising, marketing and promotion used to attract visitors to corporate web sites.

In 1999, the WMA created the IAC Awards program to recognize outstanding online advertising in all of its various forms, creating a competition where companies and individuals could enter their best work to be judged against other work in its own industry.

Press Releases
June 30, 2016
WOMA President Dr. Scott Fannin presents Dr. Katheryn Norris with the 2016 Physician of the Year award.

Washington Osteopathic Medical Association Names Dr. Katheryn Norris, 2016 Physician of the Year

Washington Osteopathic Medical Association (WOMA) is pleased to announce the WOMA Physician of the Year: Katheryn Norris, DO.

Dr. Norris is a physician at the Yakima Valley Farm Workers Clinic (YVFWC) Grandview Medical-Dental Clinic and serves as the residency director for the Sollus Northwest Family Medicine Residency Program.

The 2016 Physician of the Year award was announced at the WOMA Annual Northwest Osteopathic Convention June 23-26 in Blaine, Washington.

When making this decision, the WOMA Board of Directors takes into consideration a number of qualities. Sometimes a physician is nominated by a patient, colleague or staff because of his or her caring nature and service above self. Sometimes a recipient is a leader of the profession that has served in one or several capacities over the years. Sometimes the recipient is an educator or a mentor, or in this year’s case, both.

Dr. Norris was chosen for this honor because of her mentorship to young physicians, including the residency program as well as other pre-med forums she has participated in over the years.

“She’s been a leader to students, and the students depend on her, they value her,” WOMA Executive Director Kathie Itter said.

Dr. Norris received her degree from Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in Kirksville, Missouri. She completed her residency at the Mayo Clinic Family Medicine Residency in Scottsdale, Arizona. In 2012, Dr. Norris launched the Sollus Northwest Family Medicine Residency Program.

“We are proud to call the WOMA Physician of the Year one of our own,” YVFWC Chief Medical Officer Kevin Heidrick said. “Dr. Norris truly deserves the honor of ‘Physician of the year’ as she daily displays the YVFWC mission, ‘Together, we are dedicated to lead with the courage to care, the determination to promote personal growth and the compassion to champion the cause of those who have no voice’.

“She has been influential in leading the first Sollus Northwest Family Medicine Residency class to graduation with her remarkable mentorship and leadership. She truly deserves this honor.”

Yakima Valley Farm Workers Clinic Physician Explains Benefits of Breastfeeding

$

Press Releases
August 1, 2016

Yakima Valley Farm Workers Clinic (YVFWC) is celebrating World Breastfeeding Week, Aug. 1-7.

There are many benefits to breastfeeding, according to Dr. Ridhima Gupta, OB/GYN at Mountainview Women’s Health Center in Grandview, Washington.

“First and foremost, breastfeeding provides the baby with all the nutrients and vitamins he needs. The cells, hormones, and antibodies in breastmilk protect the babies from illness. An infant who is breastfed is helped in fighting against allergies, sickness and even obesity,” Dr. Gupta says.

Breastfed babies have also been known to have lower rates of asthma, leukemia, infections, and the risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS).

Breastfeeding isn’t just important for the infant; it is also beneficial for mom in a number of ways.

“Breastfeeding promotes healthy growth of the baby, decreases the risk of breast cancer in mom and increases the bond between mom and baby,” Dr. Gupta said.

Lactation is also proven to help mom burn extra fat, and eases mom back to her pre-pregnancy weight.

Though it’s not all sunshine and rainbows, says Dr. Gupta.

“A first-time mom may have trouble with the baby latching on,” she added.

YVFWC staff and clinicians are on hand to offer breastfeeding support if mom has questions, or needs advice.

In addition, experts suggest ensuring “skin-to-skin” time with the baby directly after birth. This helps increase the bonding between baby and mom, as well as helps to build the milk supply for baby.

For questions about breastfeeding, Dr. Gupta suggests contacting the nearest YVFWC medical site by visiting http://www.yvfwc.com/locations

Washington State Children’s Administration Recognized for Supporting Breastfeeding in the Workplace

Press Releases
August 2, 2016

Breastmilk and breastfeeding has many proven health benefits for both babies and mothers alike, and employees at the Washington State Children’s Administration have recognized the company for excellence in providing workplace support for breastfeeding mothers.

Yakima Valley Farm Workers Clinic (YVFWC), in partnership with the Yakima Health Equity Forum, a student organization of Pacific Northwest University of Health Sciences, will present Washington State Children’s Administration with its Excellence in Employer Breastfeeding Support award.

The presentation will be part of the “The Big Latch On” event in Yakima, Friday, Aug. 5 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. The event is located at Franklin Park, at 2101 Tieton Drive in Yakima. The Excellence in Employer Breastfeeding Support award will be presented at 10 a.m.

Washington State Children’s Administration was nominated by breastfeeding employees during an open call for nominations earlier this year. Nominations were solicited at WIC program offices, community events, and via social media.  Other area businesses nominated include Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital, Zirkle Fruit Company, MERIT Resource Services, Willow Springs Care and Rehabilitation, and A Child’s Place Daycare Center.

YVFWC WIC Dietitian Stacy Hackenmueller says, “Employers like Washington State Children’s Administration, who go above and beyond to support breastfeeding in the workplace, deserve recognition for their efforts. I look forward to other area employers learning about this important topic and finding other ways to innovate and help their employees and children be healthier.”

Women who want to continue breastfeeding after they return to work face major obstacles, says Hackenmueller.

“The local employers who help mothers continue to breastfeed after they return to work not only help ensure the health of their employees and children, they also earn their loyalty, which can reduce turnover and keep these businesses healthy as well,” she added.

The presentation coincides with World Breastfeeding Week, Aug 1-7.

The WABA World Breastfeeding Week (WBW) is celebrated every year from August 1st through the 7th in more than 176 countries.

In response, Safe Haven Community Center in Toppenish is now offering a Baby and Me peer group for new parents.

The Baby and Me group was created for parents with infants four months old and younger.  The group will offer two weekly sessions, one in English and one in Spanish. The English session will be on Tuesdays at 10 a.m. starting September 13, and the Spanish session will be on Thursdays at 10 a.m. starting September 15, at Safe Haven Community Center, at 410 Washington Avenue in Toppenish.

The group is free of charge, and light refreshments will be provided.

“We aim to build lasting supportive relationships between families while discussing common questions for new parents,” Erika Ochoa, Health Promotions Supervisor said.

Parents will learn and practice games, songs and activities that help their baby’s brain grow. Participants will also hear from local postpartum and infant experts, while also having the opportunity to connect with other new parents.

“Most importantly, we’ll be able to share our own experiences in care for our infants,” said Ochoa, who is also a new mother.

Interested parents can register by calling (509) 865-1804.
